Canon Character Information

Appearance: Klaus doesn't seem like an imposing figure. He stands at 5'11 yet with the way he moves and speaks he commands attention. He has short curled dirty blonde hair that if he lets it get past a certain length it becomes slightly wavy. He has blue eyes and pale skin. His frame isn't very large, but he is very well toned due to his warrior past. Klaus doesn't dress nearly as proper as his older brother. He opts for a more casual look, but he does know how to accessorize. He can cut a fine figure in a suit though when the time calls for it. He has a tattoo on the upper front left of his shoulder of a feather that fans out into a flock of birds otherwise known as Birds of a Feather. He has another on the back right shoulder of a triangle. Klaus can often be seen with stubble that he very rarely goes to the trouble of shaving away.

History: Here

Personality: Klaus Mikaelson is not as one dimensional as one would think. Before Klaus was ever an Original Vampire or an Original Hybrid he was just an untriggered werewolf. He was sweet and while he did have the aggression of a wolf the necklace his mother had him wear weakened him. Which became a problem when his step-father decided to physically abuse him. Klaus only really wanted his father's love and affection, but he never found it due to his father hating him because he wasn't his son. He's never truly seen himself as an equal when it comes to his brothers and sisters. They were Mikael's children and therefore treated with a certain respect and love that he wasn't rewarded with. Though they did treat Klaus very well themselves, but this fear grew into a paranoia that often was the root of many of Klaus' conflicts with his family.

Once he triggered though everything inside of Klaus got heightened. All the fear and the paranoia and pain just got bigger and Klaus changed. Though he still felt it was often in private. Hidden. He became sadistic and cruel at times. Letting his fear rule his life. His fear of being alone due to what he was. The curse put upon him made Klaus terrified of being alone. Singled out. The only of his kind. Niklaus Mikaelson is just a big ball of contradictions though. Because while he likes and engages in one thing if it's done to him he reacts terribly. If you lie to or manipulate Klaus in any way he reacts violently and sometimes even with death, but he won't hesitate to do that to someone else. Especially if it benefits him or keeps him and his family members safe.

Throughout the ages though Klaus had one singular cause in mind. To make more hybrids. While Klaus did have a family that was willing to stick by him through anything it was his paranoia and fear of being alone that drove them away. That drove him to do sick and twisted things to them. When they disagreed with Klaus or gained a new love in their life he often regretted with a bad temper. He's killed a large chunk of Elijah's lovers and almost all of Rebekah's. Because the one thing Klaus fears more than anything is being alone. The thought of being alone cripples him and he will do heinous things to make sure it never happens. Making more hybrids would secure that and with the sire bond they would likely feel a deep connection to him. Though Klaus chooses not to compel loyalty from people or vampires unless his safety relies on that.

He's easily angered when disrespected by younger vampires or anyone that isn't him. He will react harshly and violently. Blood is spilled and often people die. When his family members betray him Klaus is quick to dagger them and locks them away. It got so bad that eventually he had daggered almost all of them and only had one awake at a time. It usually depended on what happened between the siblings. But for all the cruel things and the ways he can make his siblings suffer he does not let others harm them. He reacts brutally and swiftly when Kol is killed. He even is shown almost crying over his half-brother. Klaus feels things intensely, but over the years he's schooled his emotions so well and turned off any outside response that people often mistake him for heartless.

Temper-tantrums can be quite excessive when thrown by Klaus. There are usually dead humans littered about and broken furniture all around. Klaus does not accept defeat easily. He always has some form of strategy and a hundred ways for him to get out of a situation. He plans and learns from any mistakes he makes with people and situations. He can be a man of his word, but sometimes he does look for loopholes in the promises he makes if he needs them. Klaus may not have a lot of friends in general, but the ones he does have he holds quite closely. He tries desperately to protect them, but even Klaus has his limits. He can't be everywhere at once despite his need to try.

Underneath all the violence, the blood shed and the sadistic revenge is quite the caring and doting father. He's determined not to be the father he had. He won't be like Mikael. He won't ever harm his child or try to make them feel small. Klaus would do anything to protect Hope. He will slay any enemy. He will stop any prophecy. He will do what he needs to do in order to keep his daughter protected. This includes all the horrible things when he had to prove to his aunt Dahlia he was on her side. He had her restart the Crescent Wolves curse (though that was also Klaus taking his revenge out on Jackson and Hayley for trying to take his daughter away) and he killed Gia (also another way to punish his brother). Klaus does these things to protect his daughter, but they also are his way of paying back people who he feels have wronged and hurt him. Klaus even goes so far at the end of the first season to ship his daughter off with Rebekah in order to keep her safe. One thing that has reared up and bite Klaus in the ass is a paranoia that his daughter will grow up and call another man her father. Whether it be Jackson or Elijah it's something that terrifies him to his very core.

Revenge can be a painful thing when Klaus Mikaelson is involved. He's not above hurting his siblings when they have betrayed them. He's threatened them all their life with the White Oak Stake. When Rebekah betrays him in season one and he learns of what she did in the past with Marcel his anger towards her grows to wild and unpredictable that he goes after her. Elijah does his best to keep Klaus from killing their sister and ultimately Niklaus does stop hunting his sister and forgives her. Elijah and Rebekah will always mean a great deal to him. His biggest fear is to have them turn their backs on him completely. While they should probably do that it's yet to happen. They have stuck to their mantra of Always and Forever.

Buried deep is a humanity that he tries very hard to keep hidden. You can see the pain and the fractured mind of Klaus through his paintings as well. All the paranoia and fear. Certain people do draw out a more tame side of Klaus though. His siblings, Hope, Hayley, Caroline, Marcel, Stefan Salvatore, and Cami. Klaus has only ever wanted to be loved unconditionally. He even has some measure of affection for Tyler. Buried deep. When these people let him down the blood does fly. Despite his father's repeated beatings he did long for the man to care for him. When he made him and his siblings his enemy and hunted them through the years there was never any hesitation on Klaus' part to kill his father. When his mother revealed to him the truth about his life he murdered her and lied to his siblings. Since then he has completely written off his parents. Finn's constant hatred of their family and what they are has done nothing, but make him an enemy of Klaus. Not to mention his past siding with their mother when she tried to have her children killed. Klaus doesn't easily forgive. Rarely even tries to, but there are certain cases where he has given the people above another chance. A chance to redeem themselves in his eyes.
